A breed description rather than a size
In the FCI system, Italian Greyhounds belong to the sighthound group. Ancestry, body shape and interest in pursuing movement link these dogs; small stature does not remove that connection. AKC places the breed in the Toy group, reflecting a different grouping system.
At home, it is easy to forget: the iggy is under a blanket, apparently devoted entirely to comfort. Outdoors, a flying leaf or bird suddenly becomes the main event. You meet another side of your sofa companion.
This explains a tendency without making individuals identical. Experience, health and preferences vary. Observe your dog and use breed information to prepare for situations you may encounter.
What changes on a walk
An iggy may respond to a bird faster than the person. Keep leash control beside roads and choose an appropriate securely enclosed site for free running. Recall is useful but cannot replace boundaries.
For strong interest in movement, increase distance and offer a simple familiar action. Avoid a pulling contest beside traffic. Quiet surroundings make attention and comfortable walking easier to reward.
Every outing need not include racing. Exploring a familiar path, learning with a person and resting after suitable activity belong to a sighthound’s life too. If the exercise site is closed, choose another available option while maintaining physical control.
