The edge should stay put
Check that fabric does not slip onto the toes or roll inward. A close cuff must not pinch the leg. Watch the natural stride on level ground and after a turn. If you need to adjust it every few metres, the fit is wrong.
After washing
Dry according to the care label and check the cuff again. Elastic or knit that has changed shape can alter sleeve length. A quick repeat fitting is better than assuming everything stayed the same.
Compare the cuff before and after movement
Position the cuff according to the design and note its edge. Recheck after a few steps, a turn and sitting down. If fabric already covers the foot or twists, a longer outing is unlikely to solve it.
Do not judge freedom only by whether a finger fits beneath the edge. Ribbing recovery, sleeve length and the thickness of folded layers matter. Rolling the cuff adds bulk.
After a wet walk, inspect the inside edge where grit and moisture collect. Clean and dry according to the label. A stretched cuff that no longer recovers its shape needs repair or replacement.
Before ordering, ask for the relaxed cuff width and information about stretch. These details complement the dog’s measurements but cannot replace fitting. The illustration shows cuff construction, not a universal correct size for every leg. Follow how the whole sleeve behaves during ordinary movement.
