A base and a soft layer
Start with a simple light piece, such as a cotton jersey top. Add a fitted fleece or sweater as the second item. They serve different purposes and help you discover which shapes your dog finds comfortable. Resist buying every colour immediately: try one piece, check its fit and care needs, then expand. Measurements, rather than age or weight alone, determine size.
Outerwear and a spare
The third piece is a light raincoat suited to your everyday outings. The fourth is a spare everyday garment, so you never need to reuse something still damp from washing. The spare does not need to be more elaborate than the main outfit. Easy care, easy dressing and colours that work with what you own make it more useful.
The fifth piece adds character
A snood or small finishing detail changes the look without another full suit. Choose one without dangling ends and use it with supervision. It does not replace a collar or harness and must never serve as a leash attachment. If your dog dislikes anything around the neck, skip this item: a capsule is a suggestion, not a requirement.
Check the capsule
Lay everything out together. Do the colours work? Are two pieces doing exactly the same job? Can you care for the collection without a complicated schedule? A useful wardrobe is easy to live with. Leave room to learn from actual walks: those will show what is missing and what is likely to stay on the shelf.
