Three familiar names
Russian readers commonly use “levretka” or “small Italian sighthound”. English-language material often says Italian Greyhound. The FCI standard uses Piccolo Levriero Italiano and Italian Sighthound. In this breed context, these names refer to the same dog.
Why search results can confuse
The short phrase “small sighthound” is not always precise, since there are many sighthound breeds. The word Greyhound in the English name does not make this breed merely a small Greyhound. For health or breed-standard information, use the full name and check the organisation and country.
Naming a garment clearly
A product description can use both the familiar and formal breed names naturally. More important are real measurements and fit photographs. A name may bring someone to the page; useful size information helps them choose.
Search for what you actually need
For a general introduction, search for the complete breed name. For an official description, add FCI standard 200. In English, spell out Italian Greyhound: IG has many unrelated meanings. Iggy appears frequently in owners’ everyday stories and informal discussions.
When looking for clothing, add the job you need it to do: raincoat, winter layer, pattern or measurements. Then check which kind of dog the advice concerns. Guidance for a Greyhound puppy does not automatically fit an adult Italian Greyhound simply because their weights happen to be similar.
With official paperwork, keep things straightforward: copy the relevant name accurately rather than inventing a translation or using a household nickname. “Little shrimp” works beautifully beneath a funny photograph. Tickets, veterinary records and pedigree documents require the information requested by the relevant service. A useful search term and an official field do different jobs.
