07:12. The human finally wakes
My schedule begins the moment the human opens one eye. I speed up the second eye with a gentle touch of my cold nose. Five minutes later, it turns out the air outside is cool. I pretend to still be asleep. The human takes down a soft garment, checks that my legs can move, and suddenly I am entirely ready for adventure. These events are unrelated, obviously.
08:04. The grand expedition
The route covers four blocks and roughly a thousand smells. A pigeon lives at the corner and never introduces itself. Outside the café someone calls me “so long”. I do not object; the description is accurate. On the way home, I find a fascinating leaf. The human suggests moving on. I propose further research. We each concede a little.
13:30. Serious work
At home I must inspect the bed, the sun patch and the blanket’s quality. It is demanding work, so occasionally I close my eyes. The human calls this sleep. Let them. When a familiar sound comes from outside, I reach the door in a second: research hours are over and observation begins. Then the blanket again. A good day requires balance.
19:16. The most important discovery
In the evening I make an important discovery: the human is on the sofa, with room for exactly one Italian Greyhound. I take the space before circumstances change. If it rains tomorrow, we will go out briefly, dry our paws and return here. If it is sunny, we will check on the pigeon and some new leaves. Either way, the day ends well: someone is close, and there is nowhere to hurry.
