Look beyond the forecast
Air temperature is only part of the story; wind, dampness and shade change how a walk feels. If leaving the winter layer at home, bring a light spare and watch the dog. Return to longer outings gradually after a quieter season.

Check paws after muddy paths, dry clothing and do not leave a wet shell in a bag. Find a new calm path with room to sniff. That makes the season interesting without an elaborate programme.
Build a spring kit
Keep a light outer layer and a paw towel nearby. After several warm days it is easy to forget that evening wind and wet grass feel different. Refit last year’s clothing if the dog has grown or changed. Do not assume an old piece still works; shoulders, belly and sleeve length deserve another check.
One season, several surfaces
A spring route may combine dry pavement, puddles and slippery snow remaining in shade. Set the pace around the least comfortable section. Sunshine on one side of the street does not mean every protective layer is suddenly unnecessary.
Afterwards, inspect paws and belly, remove dirt appropriately and dry clothing fully. Choose parasite protection with veterinary advice for your region and dog; a seasonal advertisement is not a substitute for that discussion.
Keep two route options: a short cleaner circuit for a working morning and a longer outing when there is time for care on return. If one area of clothing repeatedly gets wet, inspect the cut and equipment position. Spring walking becomes easier when a towel and drying space are already prepared at home. Adjust to the conditions you encounter, not merely the month on the calendar.
