The first hour
After waking, give the dog a moment, make water available and plan the first outing around their usual routine. Prepare a walking layer in advance for a cool morning. Hunting for a missing leash can create more fuss than leaving five minutes later.
A rhythm that belongs to your household
Some Italian Greyhounds are ready to go immediately; others need a slow stretch under a blanket. Watch your individual dog, keep a recognisable sequence and account for age. A good routine needs to work for the people too, or it will not last.
Prepare the morning the night before
Put the lead and waste bags by the door and check whether yesterday’s clothes are dry. Find your keys in advance: a harnessed dog waiting at the door is not the ideal companion for searching every bag. Less rushing makes a calm start easier.
After waking, consider the dog’s usual need to toilet, especially with a puppy. Do not delay the outing for your perfect breakfast or a long photo session in a new sweater. Keep the feeding routine that suits your dog.
Allow time for familiar smells on the first walk. A new route is not required every morning; a quiet ordinary circuit may work better than a busy street.
Back home, put wet items away to dry, check the water and let the dog settle. If a work call is coming, prepare the resting spot beforehand. A useful morning prevents small omissions from becoming jobs you have to fix all day.
