Look underneath as well as from above
A beautiful back line does not show where fabric ends underneath. For a male dog, the belly opening must account for anatomy and toileting. Check the edge while standing and moving; judge the actual dog rather than a “unisex” label.
Do not fix a cut by sizing up
If the lower cut is wrong, sizing up may only add chest folds and overlong sleeves. Look for a different cut or a design adjustment. A side photograph on a dog and the opening dimensions can help before ordering.
Ask to see the underside
Product listings often show only the back. Ask for side and underside photographs of the garment alone or on a mannequin so the opening is clear. Confirm the lower panel length and its measurement starting point.
During fitting, position shoulders and collar correctly before assessing the belly. Shifting the whole suit backwards to clear the opening can distort the armholes. The garment has to work as a whole.
After a short first outing, check that the lower edge stays clean and does not rub. Wetting underneath may reflect the cut, movement or wrong size; washing more frequently does not solve the cause.
Avoid cutting a new suit before checking exchange terms. Discuss the problem with the seller and show the fit. For custom work, agree the lower opening separately alongside body measurements and fastening details.
