Choose a relaxed moment
Do not schedule a first fitting for the minute before you need to leave. Open the closures, prepare the garment and choose a quiet space with a non-slip floor. Let the dog inspect and sniff it. Avoid turning the introduction into a struggle; pause and try later if the dog is clearly avoiding contact.
Follow the construction
Check how the piece is intended to go on: over the head, with a back closure or from the side. Do not pull a leg in an unnatural direction to reach a sleeve. Ease the fabric into place and check for catches. A simple sleeveless style can be an easier first experience than a full suit.
A few ordinary movements
Once dressed, let your dog walk around the room. Look from the side, front and back for tension, twisting and cuffs that are too long. Invite a familiar, calm action, such as walking towards you. If the stride changes noticeably, remove the garment and recheck its size and construction before continuing.
Finish at the right time
Keep the first session short. Remove the piece calmly, review any fit photographs and try again later if needed. The goal is the dog’s comfort rather than a perfect picture on the first attempt. Supervise a new garment until you know your dog wears it comfortably.
