Start with the occasion
One garment rarely covers every occasion. Fleece can suit a dry, cool walk, light jersey can make a simple indoor layer, and a knitted sweater adds texture. Start with your usual routine and your dog’s habits. A short city outing has different needs from a long day outdoors. Choose for that routine before choosing the photograph you like most.
What fleece offers
Fleece is a soft, brushed fabric that works alone or beneath a roomy outer layer. It comes in different weights, so the word fleece does not establish a temperature rating. Thickness, cut and the conditions all matter. It is not a raincoat; remove and dry a wet garment. Follow the individual care label, especially for spinning and drying.
Knit is a broad category
Cotton jersey and a chunky sweater are both knits, but behave differently. Read the fibre content and look at the structure. Loose stitches may catch; denser fabric stretches and holds shape differently. An active dog benefits from a simple cut without long decorative parts. A lovely collar still needs to feel comfortable when the dog turns its head.
A useful pairing
Rather than collecting several similar sweaters, start with two pieces that serve different purposes: a light base and a heavier layer. Try them together if you intend to combine them. Recheck the chest, armholes and neck with both on. Fabric and fit belong in the same decision; one cannot compensate for the other.
