Clean and dry first
Clean the garment according to its label before longer storage. Avoid leaving marks and dirt until next season. Check that the fabric has dried throughout; collars and cuffs often retain moisture longer than the main body. A dry-feeling surface is not the whole story. Inspect the item in good light.
Fold without stretching
Store substantial knitwear folded. Long periods on narrow hangers can stretch certain areas. Smooth the sleeves and fold without tightly twisting the garment. Keep heavy objects off the top. If using a box, choose one large enough to avoid compressing the clothing into a ball.
Choose a dry, organised space
Choose a clean, dry place away from direct sun and heat sources. Organise by purpose or size so you can find things without unpacking everything. Keep the care label or a short care note with the garment. Storage should protect from dust, without hiding a moisture problem.
Before wearing it again
Take the piece out ahead of time, air it and check the seams. Compare your dog’s current measurements with the size, since their shape may have changed. Try it on at home even if it fitted perfectly before. Good storage preserves a garment; it cannot guarantee that the same fit remains right forever.
