09:14 — a major development

The blanket moved three centimetres. As the responsible resident of this sofa, I corrected it with my nose. My person called me lazy, although I had been on duty since waking.

14:06 — a grand expedition

We went to the park and circled one tree twice. The first time it smelled of rain. The second time of another dog. Back home, I took half the sofa and left my person the other half. He calls this generous. So do I.

17:32 — the human took my place

He put a book on the sofa. A strange object: it smells of no food, does not rustle like a packet and occupies exactly the space required by my back leg. I looked at the book, then at the human. He moved it to the table. Training is going rather well.

We went out again in the evening. There was fresh information at the tree, but I spared him the details. People struggle with these matters and keep asking how long one place can possibly need sniffing. Mine did not ask today. He stood beside me watching lights appear in windows.

At home he opened his calendar and said he had achieved nothing. I checked: water, walks, correctly arranged blanket. I could not identify the missing task.

Before bed he put his phone away and sat beside me. The book stayed on the table. I stretched out a leg. Now the whole Sunday fitted.

This fictional scene has one modest suggestion: leave room in the schedule for an ordinary quiet day.
