An everyday habit
Many Italian Greyhounds enjoy soft warm places and being near people. A blanket is not an explanation for every behaviour, however; an abrupt change in comfort or energy deserves veterinary advice. An ordinary preference for cosy rest is easy to respect.
Choose fabric for real life
Choose something that can be washed and dried completely. Watch for loose loops that catch claws or long threads that pull out. Lay it so the dog can leave it easily. A beautiful textile is less useful than a simple one that works every day.
Make the blanket easy to use
Choose a blanket that is easy to wash and inspect for snags. Long fringe and large loops are awkward when a dog likes digging a sleeping hollow: claws can catch in them. Check the edges and remove damaged pieces with loose parts.
Arrange the blanket loosely so the dog can get out independently. Avoid wrapping them tightly or weighing it down with heavy cushions. Provide an uncovered resting option as well; moving away from a warm bed is a normal choice.
Before sitting on the sofa, look through the folds. A small dog can be almost invisible beneath a blanket. This simple habit is particularly useful for visitors and children.
If an Italian Greyhound suddenly hides much more than usual, do not explain everything as a love of cosiness. Consider appetite, movement and interest in company. A clear behavioural change deserves a conversation with a vet.
